What We Learned In The NFL: Week 10 Stuck
Posted on November 14, 2012 at 05:32 PM.

1) NFC East is the Worst Division in Football

A few weeks back I wrote an article ranking the best divisions in football and had the NFC East in third place and people killed me for not having them atop the rankings. Looks like we were all wrong on this one.

Philadelphia and Washington are set to implode, and this weekend's game should be downright unwatchable. Dallas is still wildly inconsistent. The Giants, who once looked like a top-two team in the NFC, are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Bengals.

People will start calling the NFC East the "NFC Least" soon, get ready it is coming. It's lazy and yet deserved.

2) Defense Wins Championships, but it isn't Entertaining

Houston and Chicago played an ugly game on national TV on Sunday night, and then America was treated to whatever you would like to call the Pittsburgh-Kansas City game on Monday night. Both games were unbearable to watch, and yet three of those teams will likely be in the playoffs.

Thankfully the league is getting away from the defensive, grind it out, three yards and a cloud of dust-style of play. That said, we are occasionally treated to games like these.

3) Indianapolis Might Be For Real

A couple weeks ago I laughed after the Colts beat the Packers and fans were saying that the Colts could be a legitimate playoff team. I was wrong. They look to have an inside track on a playoff spot in the weaker AFC. It certainly helps that the Steelers will be without Big Ben to give them some breathing room between them and the rest of the would-be hopefuls.

Andrew Luck, despite a slower start than Robert Griffin III, is getting what matters most -- Wins. So while Luck, isn't blowing the world away he is extremely impressive so far this season. It may help he has a reborn Reggie Wayne to throw to.

4) Saints Are Back, Falcons Still Class

The Saints could be the most dangerous 4-5 team of all-time, or at least in recent memory. After starting the season 0-4, the Saints have now won four of their last five and are in the process of turning their season around. If they can keep up this form over the next few weeks, which will be difficult, they could be in line for a playoff spot.

Meanwhile, the Falcons aren't dead after their first loss of the season. They cannot run the ball this year, at least not effectively, despite having perennial 1,000+ yard rusher Michael Turner and a promising young player in Jacquizz Rodgers. Maybe they don't need to run with their passing game? Just a thought, because it is so deadly.

5) The Worst Idea of All-Time: Ties in Sports

I don't know who came up with the idea of ending a game with no clear winner or loser, but whoever thought it was a good idea is a terrible person. I won't use the cliched term involving a family member, that is weird and outdated. Both the 49ers and Rams had chances to win in overtime and couldn't convert their field goals.

You know how I feel about ties? They suck.

Agree on games being tied that just seems really old fashioned to me.

I pretty much disagree with this post. Definitely a generation gap.

I watch less and less NFL football by the year because of the offense first mentality. The Chicago Bears defense and special teams are pretty much what I watch on Sunday. I have no idea why I have the Sunday Ticket.

If a game is played with a clock ties are perfectly acceptable. I wish college and the NFL still had more ties. It adds to the complexity and intrigue throughout the season.
